IMO MSC 97 Considered and adopted Amendments to Mandatory Instruments

The Committee on Maritime Safety had its ninety seventh session (MSC 97) from 21 November to 25 November 2016, which took place in the IMO headquarters in London. This report provides an overview on main points and results on the agenda items discussed.

Advice regarding verification of gross mass of packed containers

An MSC circular on Advice to Administrations, port State control authorities, companies, port terminals and masters regarding the SOLAS requirements for verified gross mass of packed containers has been agreed by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), following discussion on the pending entry into force of the requirements in SOLAS regulations VI/2.4 to VI/2/6 on the verification of the gross mass of packed containers on 1 July 2016.

IMO Mandatory audits and other amendments enter into force on 1 January 2016

New Chinese Regulations for SOx Emissions

China’s Ministry of Transport has published new regulations introducing sulphur (SOx) emission control requirements within three Ship Emission Control Areas (ECAs): Pearl River Delta (PRD), Chang Jiang Delta (CJD) and Bohai Rim (BR). These ECAs are not designated under MARPOL Annex VI.
