There are two levels of requirements, standard of competence for security-awareness training for seafarers without security duties, and standard of competence for security-awareness training for seafarers with designed security duties.
All seafarers need to hold a Certificate of Proficiency (CoP).
Seafarers, who commenced seagoing service prior to 1 January 2014, may obtain a CoP by either:
- Approved seagoing service of at least six months during the preceding three years
- Passing an approved test
- Successfully completed approved training
